Light :: Happiness :: Reflection

Today is winter solstice which marks the shortest day of year and the first day of winter. To me it means spring is not that far away. It's a day when I start to savor more of the daylight as we move into the coldest time of winter. This is a time of year when I reflect and think about the good in my life, and give myself permission to be a homebody. I go into hibernation mode and spend most nights reading by the fire with my husband and dog. I call it the good life.

This time of year I am also more aware of the possibility for peace, love, happiness, and gratitude. I feel my heart has a chance to open more and connect to others happiness and light.

Below is the Holiday postcard I designed this year and the photo on the back is me with my husband and sweet dog Jake. The photo was taken on our summer trip to my home state Colorado.

I share my holiday wish with you and may you all be surrounded by love and warmth!

Make It In Design Summer School

Currently enrolled in the Make it in Design Summer School, and what fun I am having with this class. Who would of thought summer school could be this fun?!

I signed up for the intermediate track and the first assignment was Retro Geometric, and the piece had to be for swim wear with a given palette.

You can view the piece I created in the student gallery along with lovely creations by the other talented students. Good stuff.

Retro Geometric Swim Wear Final Project

Retro Geometric pattern inspired by beach balls.

Coming up, second project assignment theme animal print design.

Dragon Flower Design

I recently designed a stencil for the awesome artist Mary Beth Shaw who is the owner of StencilGirl Products. If you haven't yet checked out her web site, you're missing out on some fantastic creative stencils.

Below are two paintings I created using the 'Dragon Flower' stencil I designed for StencilGirl Products. These paintings were fun to do and the stencil really opened up all sorts of creative possibilities for me. I kept them simple, and the big difference between the two is color palate.

The first panting, 'Sunburst', the palate is a split complementary, and the second painting, 'Flourish', is more or less primary colors minus the green. I plan to paint more using different color palates. I'm thinking about doing a pastel painting--to help Spring make an appearance soon. Anyone else ready for warmer days?

You can get my Dragon Flower stencil at StencilGirl Products, as well as other super fun stencils.
