New Watercolor Series

I recently dusted off my watercolor supplies, and started to create fun paintings with them. I forgotten how unforgiving watercolor is. Once the paint is on - that's it. It's a one time shot with these guys. For years watercolor is all I painted in, and got comfortable in the medium. Watercolor is especially nice because it does not stain clothes, as most of my clothing has acrylic paint or ink stain!

Here is a sneak peek of my watercolor paintings. A whole series will be for sale soon in my Etsy shop. So keep a look out!

Projects from Summer School with Rachel Taylor

Summer is just about over and wanted to share my projects from Summer Design School with Rachel Taylor. The first project listed the theme was  classic fonts and your own hand-drawn fonts used in a quote. I had to stick to a specific set color swatches, and prefer when someone else picks the color the theme. I used the quote "Now is the Right Time" by Lotus Sutra, which is one of my favorite quotes that I have posted on my desk. It keep me motivated to start projects AND to complete them.

Next project the theme was Deep Summer Psychedelic and was to inspired by summer, oceans and the sea. Which was easy for me as I lived by the ocean for 15 years. The green pattern was my favorite and plan to order some fabric via spoon flower. Maybe make some pillows?

Solo Art Opening this Friday

Busy the past month getting ready for my first solo art opening at Central Studio in St. Louis. The opening reception will take place this Friday at 6.30, which should be fun with live music, snacks and drinks.

Yesterday I hung the show, and very pleased with how it turned out. I am a bit frisky as much of my time was consumed with getting everything ready, and now I have idle time until the opening. I think my pieces are my strongest yet I have created. Below is a sneak peak of paintings available.

Module 2 Surface Pattern Design Course

It's been a loooong time since I last posted on my blog. Busy summer with family matters, and a fantastic trip to Scotland. Also, my husband was also gone for three months in Scotland, which meant more time for creative projects!

One such creative project was completing the Module 2 Course Creating your Professional Identity, instructed by designer Rachel Taylor and entrepreneur Beth Kempton of Make it in Design company. Wow! It was full of ample information, and often I felt overwhelmed and always behind on projects.

Below are pattern collections I designed in the class. I truly felt like I was pushed out of my comfort zone with each assignment. I felt it was a trans formative experience.

Second Project: Make it in Design Summer School

The second project theme for Make it in Design Summer school was animal print. I am not a big fan of animal prints, and this project forced me to step out of my comfort zone. Which is always good thing.

Below are my some of my designs.

My final project and really love this design. I used ink spots I created last spring in the Module 1 course.

Love the heart  peaking through the spots.

This design is a bonus palette, kinda like extra credit. Same animal theme but different palette. Can't say I really like it, but wanted to experiment with the color and design elements.

I wanted to add some elements from the beginner class theme which was tribal, and I love the theme.

Trying different colors and elements. It's an okay design.

This one kinda hurts my eyes!

Make It In Design Summer School

Currently enrolled in the Make it in Design Summer School, and what fun I am having with this class. Who would of thought summer school could be this fun?!

I signed up for the intermediate track and the first assignment was Retro Geometric, and the piece had to be for swim wear with a given palette.

You can view the piece I created in the student gallery along with lovely creations by the other talented students. Good stuff.

Coming up, second project assignment theme animal print design.

Dragon Flower Design

I recently designed a stencil for the awesome artist Mary Beth Shaw who is the owner of StencilGirl Products. If you haven't yet checked out her web site, you're missing out on some fantastic creative stencils.

Below are two paintings I created using the 'Dragon Flower' stencil I designed for StencilGirl Products. These paintings were fun to do and the stencil really opened up all sorts of creative possibilities for me. I kept them simple, and the big difference between the two is color palate.

The first panting, 'Sunburst', the palate is a split complementary, and the second painting, 'Flourish', is more or less primary colors minus the green. I plan to paint more using different color palates. I'm thinking about doing a pastel painting--to help Spring make an appearance soon. Anyone else ready for warmer days?

You can get my Dragon Flower stencil at StencilGirl Products, as well as other super fun stencils.
